Chu Hsien Hsien, born in 1981 in Taichung, Taiwan, holds an MA in Literature from Leeds Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom, along with additional art-related training. She is currently a lecturer in the College of Liberal Arts at Tunghai University, where she also teaches EMBA courses in Aesthetics of Living. A professional artist, she works in painting and photography.

Chu Hsien Hsien : As a lover of photography, I always observed the world through my eyes and caught fleeting touching moments to convey an artistic conception that words cannot express. However, I found that photography can’t reach some places; this can be supplemented by painting. This realization sparked painting creation. To me, art is like air or nutrients that sustain life and is spiritually comforting in an indescribable way. Sometimes it is elegant, sometimes comfortable, sometimes it is fascinating and seems to have the magical power to guide us to where “beauty” exists. Art is my second life: It is I and I am it.
